Natural Bulldog
5 1/4" long, 2" tall, .750" bore and 1.53" stroke. 41g. Handcut vulcanite stem with Delrin tenon.
I was talking by phone with a very knowledgeable friend and collector last week, and he said that the difference between a Bulldog and a Rhodesian is not the diamond vs. round shank that everyone thinks, it is that a Bulldog has a tall bowl and the Rhodesian has a squat bowl. Hmm. I'm sure common usage plays into it at some point, but it occurred to me that, by that definition, I likely had never made a real Bulldog.
So, just to cover my bases and that possible gap in my repertoire of standard shapes, I made one. It is square to the world, very symmetrical, and a trim little pipe — well, a solid group 3, but somehow the tall bowl makes it look small to me — if I say so myself.
